Men Race to 7th Place Finish in Riverside

Both the men's and women's team competed at the UC-Ricerside Invitational on Saturday.  The men's team had a very good outing,  while the women's team had a little of an off day while missing some runners.

The women started the day, and were led by Freshman Maddie Ambrosio, and followed in closely to the finish by Ashlyn Didomenico and Emilie Reemstma.

"I thought the girls up front did a good job of running together and staying close to each other. I feel they competed well and had a tremendous finish, but we can work on some things to keep getting better every week," said Coach Daniel Pescador.  The women were running without 3 of their top runners today and managed a 24th place finish.

The men followed the women's race,  and turned in a 7th place team finish.  The men were once again led by freshman Tristan Stellmach who ran to a 15th place finishing running 26:00.3.

"Tristan has really solidified himself as our top runner and he's been racing very well. He is really setting himself up for a big year," said Coach Pescador.  The Thunderbirds really stuck together through out the race and kept a tight pack.

"I think we did a much better job of packing it up,  and that's what really helped them finish 7th as a team.  We still have improvement to make, but it was good day for the team running their first 8k of the year," said Coach Pescador.
