Both cross country teams place fourth at Thunderbird Classic
MESA, AZ - Both the Mesa men's and women's cross country teams took fourth place Saturday at the annual Thunderbird Classic held on the MCC campus.
The Mesa men were fourth among eight teams, defeating NCAA Division I Grand Canyon and NAIA Embry Riddle.
Chris Lessard (So., Mapricopa, AZ/Maricopa H.S.) was the top finisher for the T-Bird men witrh an eighth place finish in 25:58.0 over the 8K course. Blake Fisher was second with a time of 27:01.6 and Gerardo Villagomez (So., Tempe, AZ/Tempe H.S.) was 19th with a clocking of 27:46.2.
Karlie Kjerstad (Sol, Chandler, AZ/Chandler H.S.) was the top Mesa women's finisher with a sixth place in 19:15.3 for 5K as MCC was fourth of six teams. Vicky Taverna (So., Chandler, AZ/Chandler H.S.) weas 19th timed in 20;24.8 and Alejandra Nava (So., Mesa, AZ/Tempe H.S.) placed 21st with a time of 20:30.0.
The T-Birds will travel to California Friady to participate in the Mt. Sac Invitational.
