Women's cross country places fourth at ACCAC championships

  PARADISE VALLEY, AZ - The Mesa women's cross country team took fourth place at the ACCAC championship meet held Saturday at the Paradise Valley G.C.

  The T-Birds were led by Karlie Kjerstad, pictured right, (So., Chandler, AZ/Chandler H.S.) who was MCC's top runner, placing seventh with a 5k time of 20:17.7. Vicky Taverna (So. Chandler, AZ/Seton Catholic H.S.) was 16th in 21:14.4 and Deriann Yazzie (So., Chinle, AZ/Chinle H.S.) took 18th place, clocking at 21:24.4.

  The Mesa men did not field a full team. Chris Lessard (So., Maricopa, AZ/Maricopa H.S.) was the T-Birds' top finisher, covering 8k in 27:19.8.

  Mesa will travel to Prescott AZ Saturday to participate in the Embry-Riddle Inv.
