The MCC Men's and Women's Cross Country teams competed in the Cougar Challenge on Saturday in San Marcos, CA.
The women who are ranked No. 2 in the country did not register a team score as some ran a 5k distance race as opposed to the traditional 6k. A bright spot for the Lady T-Birds was Regina Raimo who eclipsed a personal record time of a 5k en route to running a 6k.
Raimo had always fallen short of a sub-21:00 minute but on Saturday she was able to run the 5k in 19:13. Destiny Hernandez also set a new personal record in the 5k as she shaved off nearly two minutes on the course.
The No. 3 ranked men finished 9th out of 15th teams and were led by Jorge Trujillo (25:54.0) and Javier Garcia (25:54.2). Even though the finish is not what MCC was hoping for, they were able to keep the gap between runners # 1 and # 7 small as it was less than two minutes.
Wyatt Williams finished the 8k course in 26:15.3 unlocking a new personal record.
With the ACCAC Championships on Saturday, MCC looks to improve on what they can in order to remain an elite program in the conference and country.
