Mesa Volleyball Finishes 6th at NJCAA DII National Tournament
Charleston, WV - In their first NJCAA DII National Volleyball Tournament since 1980, the Mesa Thunderbirds finished sixth in a field of 16.
Winning their first match on Thursday in three sets against Iowa Central, Mesa advanced to the quarterfinal round against Parkland (IL). The T-Birds dropped that match in three sets and were bumped to the fifth place bracket.
Mesa was able to rebound and take a three sets to one victory over Pasco-Hernando State (FL) on Friday afternoon to play for fifth place. Unfortunately, Mesa was upended by Cowley (KS) in four sets, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16, 26-24.
Paige Greenly finished on the All-Tournament Team, coming off being name Most Valuable Player of the Region I/ACCAC DII Tournament just a few weeks ago.
But what an incredible season for Head Coach Megan Taylor and assistant coach Taylor Stallman as the T-Birds finished with a 24 win season, the most since 1983 when Mesa won 33 matches. Mesa also captured their first Region I Tournament Championship while making their first appearance at the National Tournament in 37 years.
Congratulations to Coach Taylor and her Mesa Thunderbirds.
