Scottsdale, AZ - The #10 Mesa Thunderbirds volleyball team went 2-2 over the weekend at the Scottsdale CC Classic, getting wins over College of Southern Nevada and Central Wyoming College but fell to conference opponent in a non-conference match, Eastern Arizona College, and Benedictine University JV.
The T-Birds opened the Classic against the Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona, falling in three sets, 21-25, 23-25, 23-25. Mesa then won its next two contests, first against College of Southern Nevada in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19, then against Central Wyoming College, also in straight sets, 25-14, 25-22, 25-23.
Mesa then dropped their final match of the tournament against Benedictine University Mesa in four sets, 17-25, 25-19, 16-25, 22-25.
Camy Cohn collected 40 total digs in the two matches they won while Leah Crist had 28 total kills for the tournament.
"It was a pretty good weekend overall. We had a chance to see a lot of different lineups and work on growing as a team," said Head Coach Megan Taylor, "It was a great learning experience and we know what we need to to continue to work to get to our goal of making regionals."
Mesa moves to 9-2 overall and look forward to a tough week of matches against two solid conference opponents, first at South Mountain on Wednesday night then at Phoenix College on Friday night. Both matches will be at 7 pm.
