Glendale defeats T-Birds in volleyball home opener

Mesa, AZ - Mesa volleyball opened up their season with a loss to the Glendale Gauchos Wednesday night, three sets to one.

Glendale is coming into this season as the reigning national champions and Mesa was looking to get into the win column, having suffered through a winless 2014 campaign.

The Gauchos took set one 25-14, looking and playing like the national champs but Mesa settled down and exucated in set two, taking the 25-22 win.  It was like a playoff atmosphere in Theo Heap Gym, as both teams rallied back and forth, making great plays to keep the ball alive.  Once a point was scored, the crowd would roar in excitement.

Glendale however took the final two sets to take the match.

Mesa head coach said "We have positive pieces, now we just need to put them in place."

Mesa will be on the road this Friday at Chandler-Gilbert, match starts at 7 p.m.  The T-Birds will be back home next Wednesday, September 2 against South Mountain, match starts at 7 p.m.
