Volleyball drop 3 straight to South Mountain

Box score

PHOENIX, AZ, - In their second match of the season, the Mesa women's volleyball team dropped three straight games to the Cougars of South Mountain Community College Wednesday.

Chelsey Stover, pictured right, (Fr. St. David, AZ/St. David H.S.) had a big night for the T-Birds with eight kills on 22 attempts without an error. Alexis Falatyn (Fr., New York, N.Y/Seton Catholic (AZ) H.S.) had 12 digs and Taylor Ka'alele (So, Waimanolo, HT/Henry J. Kaiser H.S.) added 11. Shelby Murphy (So., Show Low, AZ/Show Low H.S.) had 14 assists.

Mesa fell easily in the first game, 25-14.  The T-Birds had a hard time finding any rhythm and the Cougars took quick advantage of Mesa mistakes.

In game two, Mesa played a bit more tough, exchanging points with the Cougars til South Mountain finally pulled away with a 25-19 win.

It was the same story for Mesa in game three, playing more in rhythm with each other, holding the lead on three different occasions but again South Mountain took advantage of Mesa mistakes.  They pulled away with 25-20 victory, sealing the deal for South Mountain.

The T-Birds will play again this Friday, the September 5th, the first home game the T-Birds.  Tune in the T-Birds Sports Live for the live broadcast at 7 pm.
