Volleyball opens with loss at Glendale
GLENDALE, AZ - Featuring a mostly new team with a brand new head coach, the Mesa volleyball team opened its 2014 season with a 3-1 loss at Glendale.
The T-Birds, under new coach Matt Werle, won the second set of the best of five match. MCC did not win a set against the Gauchos, who finished second in the ACCAC, in two matches last season. Set scores were: 10-25, 25-22, 7-25, 11-25.
Hannah Marang, pictured right, (So., Yakima, Wash/West Valley H.S.) and Tia Kannapel (So., Fountain Hills, AZ/Fountain Hills H.S.) each had four kills for MCC. Marang added four total blocks.
The T-Birds have a break until their next match, a visit to South Mountain next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. They will then open their home season Friday, Sept. 5, hosting Chandler-Gilbert at 7:00 p.m. in Theo Heap Gym.
