Volleyball falls to South Mountain, 3-1
MESA, AZ - Despite a very strong start the Mesa volleyball team wound up dropping a 3-1 ACCAC decision to South Mountain in Theo Heap Gym Wednesday night.
The T-Birds took the first set, 25-16, despite falling behind at the start, 9-2. They also held a 24-22 lead in the second set but fell, 27-25. It was all SMCC the rest of the way, taking the final two sets, 25-14 and 25-15.
MCC suffered two injuries late, with Ashlie Mills (So., Phoenix, AZ/Greenway H.S.) going down in set three and Ryanne Willis, pictured right, (So., Snowflake, AZ/Snowflake H.S.) having to leave the match in the fourth. It is thought neither injury is serious.
Willis and Lindsey Logan (So., Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage H.S.) each had ten kills, while Jamie Sang (Fr., Gilbert, AZ/Desert Ridge H.S.) added seven. Madison Horn (Fr., Cave Creek, AZ/Cactus Shadows H.S.) contributed 17 digs and Natalie Elkins (So., Snowflake, AZ/Snowflake H.S.) had 16. Logan had 12 digs to go with her ten kills while Willis added seven total blocks. Elkins also added 29 assists.
The T-Birds are off until next Wednesday when they travel to Phoenix for a 7:00 p.m. match.
