Women's tennis captures Region I championship

Glendale, AZ - For the third time in the last four years the Mesa women''s tennis team has won the Region I championship.

The 15th-ranked T-Birds took eight of the nine flights en route to their win. Below are flight winners with their championship match scores.

Singles:

1. Ana Villalvazo d. Eastern Arizona, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5

2 Sabrina Sanchez d. Pima, 6-1, 6-1

3 Paige Stanford d. Paradise Valley, 7-5, 7-5

4 Cidny Anders d. Eastern Arizona, 6-1, 6-0

5 Brooke Maclay d. Paradise Valley, 6-1, 6-4

6 Alahzay Rossi d. Pima, 6-2, 6-4

Doubles

1 Villalvazo/Sanchez d. Pima, 6-0, 6-2

2 Anders/Stanford d. Pima, 6-0, 6-3

3 Maclay/Rossi lost to Eastern Arizona, 6-7 (2). 3-6

MCC will now move on to the NJCAA Division I National Championships which will be held May 5-10 in Tyler, Texas.
