Women's tennis falls to NCAA Division I New Mexico State, 4-0
Mesa, AZ – The No. 15 Mesa women's tennis team took a big step up in competition Wednesday, taking on NCAA Division I New Mexico State.
The T-Birds lost, 4-0, under the NCAA scoring system which awards just one point to the team winning at least two of the three doubles matches and ending the match when one team has scored four of a possible seven points.
For MCC, two players put up strong fights in abbreviated second sets. Sabrina Sanchez was leading, 3-2, when her No. 2 singles match was called off. Ana Villalvazo lost the opening set, 6-1, at No. 1 but she was at 3-3 in the second when the match ended.
Mesa plays for the third consecutive day Thursday, going back into ACCAC play hosting Pima at the MCC courts at 1:30 p.m.
