No. 15 women's tennis tops Paradise Valley, 7-2
Mesa, AZ – Mesa's 15th-ranked women's tennis team scored a 7-2 victory over Paradise Valley Tuesday at the MCC courts in a match postponed from Feb. 21 by rain.
The win improved the T-Birds' record to 5-2, including a perfect 3-0 in ACCAC play.
Mesa swept all three doubles matches with Ana Villalvazo and Sabrina Sanchez winning 8-0 at No. 1, Paige Stanford and Cindy Albers taking the No. 2 match, 8-3 and Alahazy Rossi and Brooke MacLay combining for an 8-1 win at No. 3.
In singles, Villalvazo, ranked No. 29 in the nation, took a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Tia Silav at No. 1. Sanchez, the 39th ranked singes player, blanked Sammy Jo 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, MacLay topped Leah Bookbinder at No. 5 and Rossi was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Kim Correa.
Mesa begins a weekend trip to California Friday with two matches. MCC faces NCAA Division I UC-Irvince at 9:00 a.m. and then Irvine Valley at noon.
