Rough day for women's tennis at nationals as all fall

  Tucson, AZ – It was a rough day for the Mesa women's tennis team at the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tuesday as all six of MCC's remaining entrants were eliminated.

  The T-Birds will finish with 23 points, which currently has them in eighth place, however other teams with players still competing could score points and pass Mesa.

  All four of the MCC singles players who reached the quarter-final round fell Tuesday.

  At No. 3 singles, Yolena Carlon lost to seventh-seeded Dougliesy Linarez of ASA  2-6, 2-6.

  Fifth-seeded Julia Ortiz dropped a 1-6, 0-6 decision to Jueng Wang, of ASA, the No. 4 singles.

  At No. 5, Hannah Nelson, the No. 5 seed, lost to second-seeded Lisa Khamassi, of ASA, 1-6, 4-6.

  Michelle Fournier was beaten by top-seeded Elena Tendero , of Tyler , 0-6, 1-6.

  In doubles, MCC's fourth-seeded No. 1 team of Khanh Huynh and Naa Ankrah took the first set against seventh-seed Idah Longwe and Neus Torresgosa, Barton, 7-5, but the fell 4-6, 4-6.

  At No. 2 doubles, the T-Birds' sixth-seeded team of Carlon and Ortiz was beaten by the third-seeded duo of Steffany Bermudez and Sarah Mansen, of  Seward Co., 3-6, 1-6.
