Women's tennis scores another NCAA DII win, downing St. Cloud State, 9-0
Mesa, AZ – Moving up to face yet another NCAA Division II squad didn't faze the Mesa women's tennis team which scored a 9-0 win over St. Cloud (Minn.) State Wednesday.
The victory raises the T-Birds' record to 5-3, but all three losses have come against four-year competition, while MCC has two wins at that level.
"All of our women played well, but we need to work a bit more on keeping our cool when we make mistakes," noted head coach Adam Cohen. "We have to understand that we will miss easy shots at times, make impossible shots sometimes, but to always play for the next ball."
Khanh Huynh, ranked No. 13 in the nation in NJCAA Division I dispatched Abigail Kantor, 6-1, 6-1, to highlight the win. No. 32 Naa Ankrah was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Marila Roque Diversi at No. 2 singles and 43rd ranked Yolanda Carlon won at No. 3 6-0, 7-5, over Fernanda Santos.
Mesa will head to Tucson for an 11 a.m. match with Pima.
