No. 8 women's tennis opens conference season with 8-1 win at Eastern Arizona
Thatcher, AZ – The eighth-ranked Mesa women's tennis team opened its ACCAC season with an 8-1 win over No. 22 Eastern Arizona Thursday. It was MCC's 25th consecutive conference victory dating back to 2013.
43rd-ranked Yolanda Carlon scored the T-Birds' most decisive victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Celine Mann at No. 4 singles, while Charlotte Lotte won over Rebekah Larson at No. 6, 6-0, 6-3.
"This was a good win," said head coach Adam Cohen. "EAC has gotten a lot stronger since last year, so an 8-1 is very nice. Our doubles keeps on improving and I believe were are ready for anyone in that area. If we can make the same leaps over the coming weeks with our singles game... We will be in business. It just depends on how bad our women want to be in contention for the big trophy."
In other singles competition, No, 32 Naa Ankrah won at No. 1 over Amalie Saint-Dizier, 6-2, 6-3 and No. 13 Khanh Huynh was a 6-1, 6-2 victor over Juliette Mary at No. 2.
MCC will host NCAA Division III St. Cloud State Monday.
