Maria Garduno Advances to Final Round at Women's Tennis National Tournament

TYLER, Texas – Second-seeded Maria Garduno (Fr., San Luis Potosi, Mexico) won her semi-final match at No. 6 singles and earned a spot in the final round to highlight the Mesa women's tennis team's showing Wednesday at the NJCAA Division I National Championship.  

Garduno will play top-seeded Mikala Lowrance, of ASA, Thursday at 8:30 a.m. CDT at Tyler Junior College.  

The T-Bird still hold third place with 32 points. ASA leads Tyler by one point, 44-43.  MCC's other semi-finalists all fell on Wednesday.  

Emily Chang, the No. 4 seed at No. 1 singles, lost to top-seeded Maria Medina Betancourt, of State College of Florida, 0-6, 6-3, 3-6.  

In the No. 4 singles semi-finals, Naa Ankrah (Fr., Amsteram, Netherlands) was beaten by No. 1 seed Mingxiu Du, of ASA, 3-6, 2-6.  

At No. 5 singles, third-seeded Hanna Nelson (Fr., Mesa, AZ) lost to No. 2 Michelle Walker, of Tyler, 16,
4-6.
