Curiel, Fournier take No. 2 doubles consolation final at NJCAA women's tennis championship

  TUCSON, AZ - Desiree Curiel (So., Globe-Miami, AZ/Miami H.S.) and Michelle Fournier (Fr., Chicago, Ill/Saguaro (AZ) H.S.) won the No. 2 doubles final at the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis National Championship Wednesday.

  The pair battled through the consolation bracket, taking down Kari Beck and Barbara Codognotto, of Barton, 8-5.

  MCC's No. 3 doubles team of Sydney Madsen (So., Orem, Utah/Perry H.S.) and Vanessa Mitrica (So., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) fell to Tymeka Hunter and Krissy Stutts, of Jones Co., 8-6.

  Through the first four days of play Mesa was tied for 13th place with 16 points.

  The action completed MCC's play at the nationals.
