Women's tennis ties for second at regional, qualifies for nationals

  GLENDALE, AZ - The Mesa women's tennis team has earned another trip to the NJCAA Division I national championship by tying for second place at the Region I championship event.

  The T-Birds won two singles flights and one in doubles while finishing in a deadlock with Eastern Arizona. Pima took the title.

  Desiree Curiel (So., Globe-Miami, AZ/Miami H.S.) was victorious at No. 4 singles and Sydney Madsen (So., Orem, Utah/Perry (AZ) H.S.) took the title at No. 6.

  Curiel and Michelle Fournier (Fr., Chicago, Ill/Saguaro (AZ) H.S.) paired to take the No. 2 doubles crown.

  The NJCAA nationals will take place May 3-8 in Tucson, AZ.
