Marcenco Reaches Semi-Finals at NJCAA Women's Tennis Championship; Team Ninth

  TYLER, Texas - Julia Marcenco, pictured right, has earned her way into the semi-finals of the No. 4 singles bracket as play continues in the NJCAA Women's Tennis National Championship Tuesday.

  As a team the T-Birds stand in ninth place with 18 points. Host Tyler leads with with 36 points. ASA is second with 34 and Georgia Perimeter is third at 30.

  Marcenco, who is seeded fifth, took down fourth-seeded Chelsea Smithback, of South Plains, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, to earn the right to meet top-seeded Kayla Kleir, of ASA, Wednesday morning at 6:30 a.m. Arizona time.

  Desiree Jackson dropped her quarter-final match to Joanna-Nena Savva, of Tyler, 1-6, 0-6 at No. 2 singles. 

  Danielle Huss was eliminated at No. 3 singles by third-seeded Chloe Murphy, 2-6, 1-6.

  In doubles, Marcenco and Huss were ousted at No. 2 by the second-seeded team of Dayanna Agasieva and Diana Perez, of ASA, 1-6, 0-6 and Desiree Curiel and Karah Hedquust lost at No. 3 to Ashley Bryen and Sherill Marble, of Seminole State, 3-8. They will play Sheridan McKissock and Elizabeth Arens, of Elgin, at 11:00 a.m. Arizona time in the colsloation semi-finals.
