Mesa, AZ - Mesa rallied on veteran Emily Lynch Saturday afternoon as the Mesa Thunderbirds defeated the Gateway Geckos, 2-1.
It was Lynch who scored Mesa's two goals on the evening, her first coming quickly in the 8th minute of the match, with an assist from Maia Gajate. Lynch's second goal came in the 61st minute, with an assist coming from Martina Bueno.
The T-Birds did score the first two goals of the match but Gateway made it interesting by scoring in the 71st minute of the second half. Mesa's backline held strong though through the last 19 minutes to pull out the victory.
Mesa moves to 5-5-1 on the season. With the victory over Gateway tonight, Mesa has won the season series against the Geckos. The T-Birds have some time off this next week before playing home against Scottsdale on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 pm.
