Two second half goals propel women's soccer past Glendale, 2-1; men's soccer fall in OT, 4-3

Mesa, AZ-

Women's

Mackenzie Brown(Fr., Flagstaff, AZ, Coconino H.S.) and Rianna Porch(So., Gilbert, AZ, Williams Field H.S.) knocked in the two goals that help Mesa overcome a first half deficit over Glendale Tuesday night at John D. Riggs Stadium.

With the win, Mesa is currently sitting in the sixth position in the ACCAC standings at 6-10-1.

Glendale went into halftime with a 1-0 lead but Mack Brown scored the first T-Bird goal at the 49 minute mark to tie the game.  

A little over three minutes later, it was Poarch who scored the second goal, taking a pass from Jessica Lynn(So., Queen Creek, AZ, Queen Creek H.S.) on a corner kick.

Mesa was able to hold on to the one point victory.  They will head to Chandler-Gilbert Saturday evening to play the Coyotes at 4:30 p.m.

Men's

This matchup with Glendale was a big one tonight.  With a win and Chandler-Gilbert loss, the T-Birds would be tied with the Coyotes at 9-7-1 heading into a weekend showdown at Chandler-Gilbert this Saturday.  unfortunately, Mesa couldn't get past the Glendale Gauchos Tuesday night as they fell in overtime, 4-3. 

Glendale scored the first goal of the game, knocking off Mesa goalkeeper Austin Wagner's outstretched reach, giving the Gauchos a 1-0. 

Mesa answered back with a goal from Obedd Fuentes a few minutes later, tieing the game back up at 1.

Glendale knocked in another before halftime to take a 2-1 lead. 

Andres Elizalde knocked in two goals for Mesa in the second half, the second one coming with just four minutes to play in the match, to tie the game at 3. 

The Gauchos scored the winning goal in overtime to take the victory and sending Mesa to an 8-8-1 record.  They travel to Chandler-Gilbert Saturday night, start time at 7:00 p.m.
