Women's soccer boosts playoff hopes with 1-0 win at Chandler-Gilbert

CHANDLER, AZ - With Region I playoff hopes riding on every game, the Mesa women's soccer team gave its bid for a spot a big lift Saturday with a 1-0 win at second place Chandler-Gilbert.

Mesa is now 8-5-5 and sitting in sixth place in the ACCAC, the final playoff spot. Right behind are Phoenix at 9-6-4 snd Cochise with an 8-8-2 record.

Mesa has two tough games remaining. Thursday it hosts 13th-ranked Pima on Sophomore Night at 8:00 p.m. at John D. Riggs Stadium. The regular season ends Saturday at Paradise Valley.

The win Saturday was MCC's second shutout of the year over  CGCC, both shutouts.

Tawsi Rohner (Fr., Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert H.S.) netted the game-winner in the 24th minute. It was her seventh of the season.

Then the Mesa defense took over, blanking the Coyotes for MCC's seventh shutout of the year. Keeper Danielle Torres (So., Yuma, AZ/Kofa H.S.) made five saves.
