YUMA, AZ - For the second time this year Mesa and Arizona Western met in women's soccer and nothing was decided. Even the final score was the same, 1-1.
Both teams scored late. Elisa Espino put the Matadors on the board first, in the 71st minute. But Morgan Eddy, pictured right, (So., Farmington, NM/Farmington H.,S.) netted her third goal of the year eight minutes later to tie it, 1-1, and that is the way it stood through two overtime periods. Jordan Drake (So., Grand Junction, Colo/Grand Junction H.S.) got the assist.
Danielle Torres (So., Yuma, AZ/Kofa H.S.) made seven saves in a return to her hometown.
Both teams are no strangers to ties. Mesa is now 4-3-4 and AWC has a 5-3-4 record.
MCC will travel to Phoenix Tuesday to make up a game cancelled by poor weather earlier in the season. The contest will begin at 7:00 p.m.
