Women's golf ninth after day 1 at NJCAA nationals
Braselton, Ga. – The Mesa women's golf team stood in ninth place after the first day of play at the NJCAA national championship Monday.
The T-Birds shot a 339 on opening day at the Chateau Elan Resort course and were just nine shots behind fifth place Iowa Western in fifth place. Daytona (Fla.) State, however, breezed to a 300 to take the early lead by six shots over Seminole (Fla.) State.
MCC was led by Haley Kapanicas who was tied for 16th place in the 120-place field with a 79.
She was followed by Megan Fusak whose 81 put her in a tie for 27th place. Madison Tjaden carded an 88 to tie for 58th place and Cheyanne Stewart rounded out the Mesa scoring with a 91 and a tie for 72nd place.
The tournament continues through Thursday.
