Women's Golf National Tournament DAY 1 Results

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Mesa women's golf team finished the opening day at the NJCAA National Championship in seventh place among 17 schools over the tough LPGA International Golf Course Monday.  

The T-Birds shot a 336 to sit one shot ahead of Iowa Western and were just five shots out of third place. The powerful programs of Daytona State (291) and Seminole State (292) were well in front after the first round. Only 11 players were able to break 75 over the rugged layout.  

MCC was led by Jill Harvison (So., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) who was tied for 19 th place individually out of 107 players with a 79.  

Savannah Cooper (Fr., Sedona, AZ/Red Rock H.S.) and Brianna Medrano (Fr., Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert H.S.) were tied for 29 th place with 83s.  

In addition, Samantha Hernandez (Fr., Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert H.S.) shot a 91 and Chelsie Peterson (So., Tempe, AZ/Marcos de Niza H.S.) had a 100.  

The tournament continues Tuesday through Thursday.
