Conference, region, awards flow for women's golf

  MESA, AZ - Following their 66-shot win at the South Mountain Invitational Tuesday the Mesa women's golf team learned of the hoard of awards won by MCC players.

  The T-Birds won all seven events in conference play this season with an average round of 305.7, easily outdistancing second place South Mountain at 329.9.

  They have won the Region I championship nine years in a row and 14 of the last 15.

  All-five Thunderbird regulars earned first team honors, topped by Charatta Thongbai (So., Gilbert, AZ/Dobson H.S.) who was named Player of the Year.

  In addition, head coach John Guerrero was once again named Coach of the Year.

  Other Mesa players who earned all-region honors were: Sierra Myerscough (So., Champaign, Ill/St. Thomas More H.S.), Jill Harvison (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.), Jacquelyn Porman (So., Gilbert, AZ/Dobson H.S.) and Brianna Medrano (Fr., Queen Creek, AZ/Gilbert H.S.).

  MCC will host the NJCAA Division I National Championship at the Longbow G.C. in Mesa, May 12-15.
