Women's golf 18th on first day of NCAA Division I Red Rocks Invitational

  SEDONA, AZ - The Mesa women's golf team stood in 18th place among 20 primarily NCAA Division I schools after the first day of the Red Rocks Invitational at the Oak Creek C.C. Friday.

  Mesa shot a 330 to lead Northern Kentucky (331) and North Dakota (340). The T-Birds were just one shot behind Utah Valley and two back of Nebraska-Omaha. Northern Arizona led the event with an even 300, one shot ahead of Sacramento State and Cal Poly.

  Charatta Thongbai, pictured, (So., Gilbert, AZ/Dobson H.S.) led MCC with a 79 and was tied for 58th place in the 131-player field. Jaquelyn Porman (So., Gilbert, AZ/Chandler H.S.) had an 81, Sierra Myerscough (So., Champaign, Ill/St. Thomas More H.S.) an 84, Brianna Medrano (Fr., Queen Creek, AZ/Gilbert H.S.) an 86 and Jill Harvson (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) an 88.

  The event concludes Saturday.
