Bio

During the course of Mesa's great run of women's basketball success in recent years, a crucial factor has been the presence of assistant coaches Sam Stevens and Ben Nelson.

They have helped guide the T-Birds to a national championship, runner-up finish and three consecutive Region I titles.

Coach Nelson is originally from Frederic, Wisconsin and has been coaching basketball for eight years. 

Nelson earned his undergrad in 2003 at the University of Wisconsin - Superior. 

Nelson currently teaches online at Primavera High School and works for Youth Advocate Programs, Inc.

Nelson earned two Master's degrees in 2010 and 2011.  His first came under the Sport and Exercise Science curriculum from Argosy in Phoenix.  His second came in the Mental Health Counseling forum also at Argosy. 

After moving to Phoenix in 2008 for grad school, Coach Nelson began teaching Intro to Sport Psychology at Mesa CC.
