Mesa, AZ - The #18 Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team defeated the Glendale Gauchos Saturday afternoon at Theo Heap Gym, 68-46.
It wasn't the prettiest of first 20 minutes of basketball for the T-Birds, but a dominant second half proved to be a better recipe for victory.
Scoring just 26 points in the first half, Mesa rattled off 42 points in the second half while holding the Gauchos to just 23 points in the second half, six alone in the third quarter.
Hauling in another double-double was Zyan Smith, who scored 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds while Jacey Salabiye also scored 15 points on 6-9 shooting, going 2-2 from three.
With the win, Mesa moves to 15-7 overall and 12-3 in the ACCAC play. The T-Birds will play on the road next Wednesday night at Arizona Western at 5:30 pm then back home next Saturday afternoon vs Cochise at 2 pm.
