Douglas, AZ - Battling all night with one of the toughest teams in the country, the Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team defeated the Cochise Apaches, 57-49, in Douglas, AZ Wednesday night.
With big contributions coming from every player that hit the court for Mesa, the T-Birds high point scorers were Zyan Smith (13) and Jacey Salabiye (12).
But it was Mesa's gritty approach to the game that helped them secure their 8th victory of the season and their fourth victory in a row.
Mesa had 11 steals on the night to go along with four blocks to shut down a strong offensive scoring team.
The T-Birds move to 8-4 on the season with a 5-1 conference record. The T-Birds will have a bit of a break till December 31st when they play a non-conference game against South Plains at home at noon.
