Mesa, AZ - On American Indian Recognition night, filled with excellent presentation by various speakers and dances, the Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team defeated the Tohono O'odham Jegos, 81-63, Wednesday night at Theo Heap Gym.
Bursting on the scene with 26 points and 11 rebounds was freshman Zyan Smith, recording career bests in both points and rebounds.
Mesa controlled the lead throughout the whole game, with their largest lead being 25 points.
Myka Taliman and Jacey Salabiye each scored 13 points for Mesa while Rylee Young and Stacey Begay each scored 10 points.
With the win, Mesa moves to 4-3 on the season. They will be back in action this coming Saturday afternoon when they host the Central Arizona Vaquera's at 2 pm.
