Fuller's 23 Points Help Mesa Beat the Bears Saturday Afternoon, 67-44

Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team defeated the Phoenix College Bears Saturday afternoon at Theo Heap Gym, 67-44.  It was a stylish victory as well for the Thunderbirds as they donned their Nike N7 jersey for the first time this season.

Celebrating the 6th Annual American Indian Recognition Game, the afternoon started by introducing the newest member of the T-Birds, honoree point guard, three-year old Lyla Boni.  Boni is a leukemia survivor and is currently in remission. She signed a letter of intent earlier this week with the Lady T-Birds.

In game action, it was once against Diamond Fuller leading the way for Mesa, scoring 23 points while collecting 11 rebounds and grabbing five steals.  With the score tied at 12 after the first quarter, Mesa outscored the Bears by six to take a 26-20 halftime advantage.

The T-Birds then put the petal to the metal as they outscored the Bears 41-24 in the second half to coast to its third victory of the season.

Mesa forced 28 Bear turnovers on the day and converted those turnovers into 27 points on the other end of the court while the T-Birds also dominated in the paint, outscoring PC, 38-26.

With the win, the T-Birds move to 3-6 overall with a 2-1 ACCAC conference record.  Mesa will be back at home this coming Wednesday night when they host the Glendale Gauchos beginning at 5:30 pm.
