Offensive Onslaught by #1 Monroe Sinks #5 Mesa, 87-71: T-Birds to Play for 3rd Place vs Highland Saturday

Harrison, AR - Hopes of winning the NJCAA DII National Championship were dashed Friday night for the Mesa Thunderbirds as they were defeated by the #1 Monroe Tribunes, 87-71.

Connecting on 46 percent (27-58) of their field goals and knocking down 13 three's, Monroe's offensive attack just couldn't be contained.  Mesa trailed after the first quarter, 29-21, but a six point second quarter inevitable doomed what would be a late fourth comeback attempt.  The Tribunes would take a 45-27 lead into halftime.

Mesa would shoot 15-29 (51%) in the second half, connecting on four three-pointers with Diamond Fuller being the leading scorer for Mesa with 16 points.

With the loss, Mesa will now play in the 3rd place game against the #3 Highland Scotties, out of Highland, KS.  Game time will be at 5 pm CT, 3 pm AZ time.
