Valiant Mesa Comeback Falls Short in Loss to #15 Seward County, 73-62

Scottsdale, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds put up a valiant effort in the second half but fell short of victory as Seward County defeated the T-Birds, 73-62, Friday morning at Scottsdale Community College.

In a competitive first half, Mesa held their own against the #15 team in the DI.  Tied at 15 after the first quarter, it was the Saints who pulled away near the end of the second quarter by using the three point shot that made the difference.  The Saints connected on six first half three pointers compared to Mesa's one.  Seward County finished the half with an 11 point advantage, 36-25.

In the second half, Mesa chipped away at the Saint lead, cutting it to a six point difference but it wasn't enough.  Seward County made 14 second half free-throws to go along with three more three pointers.

Mesa's Leah Goodman led in the team in points scored with 14 while Takara Wade scored 11 and pulled down six rebounds.

The T-Birds will finish off their holiday schedule with a trip down to Tucson and a one game matchup with Bismark State College at the Bruce Fleck Classic on Saturday with a 1 pm tipoff.
