Scottsdale, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team opened day one of the Bill Culver Memorial Classic with a victory of the South Plains Texans, 74-65.
The T-Birds were led by point guard Takara Wade, who finished with a team high 14 points and also dished out four assists.
Also coming up with a big night with points was Deja Dagons, who had 13 points and two assists while also pulling down six rebounds.
Mesa jumped out to a quick 22-11 advantage in the first quarter and never looked back, taking a 35-26 lead into the halftime break.
Overall, the T-Birds shot 45 percent (29-64) from the field while connecting on six three-pointers on the evening.
The T-Birds will be back in action tomorrow morning as they will play Seward County at 11:15 am at Scottsdale Community College.
