Yuma, AZ - It was an interesting game down in Yuma between Mesa and Arizona Western Wednesday night. With Mesa taking a big lead in the first half and then Mesa giving up that lead in the second half, to just doing just enough to win, the T-Birds leave Y-Town with a 71-68 victory.
Leading the way for Mesa was Tori Lloyd and Quynne Huggins, each scoring 17 points with Allies Fuller adding 10 points.
Mesa had a dominate first quarter, out scoring the Matadors 26-12, finishing the quarter with a buzzer beater from Huggins to give Mesa the 14 point lead. At one point of the first half, the T-Birds had a 19 point advantage.
The Matadors chipped away at the T-Bird lead, inching closer and closer but never being able to overtake the Mesa lead.
With the victory, Mesa moves to 15-5 overall and 11-3 in the ACCAC conference. The T-Birds will be on the road again on Saturday when they travel to Sells, AZ to face Tohono O'Odham.
