Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds women's basketball team won their first home game of the season with a victory over Trinidad State College, 63-44.
The victory comes in the first annual Mesa Classic, hosted by the T-Birds at Theo Heap Gym. Leading the way for Mesa was Tori Lloyd, who finished with 20 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists.
It was a close game after one quarter, 11-10, in favor of Trinidad State but the T-Birds ripped off 22 points in the second quarter to head into halftime with a dozen point advantage, 32-20.
Also having a big night for Mesa was Quynne Huggins, pouring in 19 points herself with 10 rebounds and five steals.
One big thing Mesa did was outrebounded the Trojans, 39-25, while also having 14 steals on the night. The T-Birds dominated the paint, out scoring Trinidad 38-12.
The T-Birds move to 3-0 on the season. They will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against North Idaho State, who lost today against the Cochise Apaches in the 5:30 game, 89-47. Tip off will be at 4 p.m. with Cochise playing against Trinidad State at 2 p.m.
