Short-handed Mesa women fall to Pima, 71-65

  MESA, AZ - Gamely battling with only seven health players, the Mesa women's basketball team fell to ACCAC Division II top-seeded Pima Wednesday at Theo Heap Gym, 71-65.

  The T-Birds put on a great effort in the first half, leading at the break, 34-27, but shot just 21 percent in the third quarter to slip behind, 44-42. PCC quickly built its lead during the fourth quarter as MCC also dealt with foul trouble, and then held off a late Mesa charge.

  Five T-Birds scored in double figures, led by Allies Fuller (Fr, Buckeye, AZ/Buckeye Union H.S.) with 12.

  Brianna Clah (So., Chinle, AZ/Many Farms H.S.) and Rebecca Rudd (So., Gilbert, AZ/Highland H.S.) each had 11 and Sham Troupe (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/Dobson H.S.) and Natalie Stilwell (So., Fountain Hills, AZ/Fountain Hills H.S.) added ten each.

  Stilwell contributed 12 rebounds as Mesa out-rebounded the Aztecs, 39-36.

  MCC will visit Central Arizona Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
