Kylie Herd's work ethic spells success at Mesa

By Ernest Hester

A 3.0 student, calm and always relaxed, that's Kylie Herd who, on the court is a baller who gets buckets.

Born and raised in Mesa, Herd loved basketball from an early age. Her strategic approach to life has guided her to all the way to a DII national championship.

Herd attended Acadia high school in Phoenix, AZ.  While there, her hard play landed her on both first team all- section as well as first team all-region teams. In the classroom there was no drop off, she maintained a 3.0 GPA.

She has already made a big impact both in class and on the court at Mesa.
Studying Kinesiology is hard enough, but maintaining a 3.0 GPA while helping your team win a national championship is focus with a blue-collar work ethic, typical of Kylie Herd. When asked about the championship run last season her response was simply, "It was awesome, I definitely think we can make it back,  we have a tough group of girls and a lot of talent. Myself, and the other sophomores, are ready to lead, and we know what it takes to win."

Herd is in her final year at MCC and looks forward to playing at a four-year school. There are a few schools she interested in, but she wants to wait and commit at season's end.

Herd has been dedicated, hard-working, and a competitor on the court at MCC. She will be missed and applauded, after all-she's a national champion.
