Mesa women take easy, 91-66, win at Tohono O'odham

  TOPOWAH, AZ - Taking control from the very beginning, the Mesa (12-6, 7-4) women scored an easy, 91-66, victory at Tohono O'odham, Saturday night to close the first half of the ACCAC season.

  MCC jumped to a 12-2 lead and built a 40-17 margin over the Jegos (3-15, 2-9).

  The win ensures the T-Birds will be in first place in the Conference in Division II play at the end of the first half of the season, one game ahead of Pima which lost Saturday to Scottsdale, 66-59.

  Kylie Herd (So., Phoenix, AZ/Arcadia H.S.) led MCC in scoring with 15 points, while Rebecca Rudd (So., Gilbert, AZ/Highland H.S.) added a season-high 12.

  Scoring ten each for the T-Birds were Erica Vasquez (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) and Taylor Reed (Fr., Kingman, AZ/Kingman H.S.).

  MCC was a fine 36-68 (.529) from the floor and got well-distributed reboundng. Megan Gillespie (So., Phoenix, AZ/Arcadia H.S.) led with six, while Herd, Vasquez and Lacey Viselli (So., Surprise, AZ/Valley Vista H.S.) all had five each.

  Mesa hosts Cochise on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
