Distance star Quinn Johnson signs with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Mesa, AZ – Mesa distance running star Quinn Johnson will be continuing her career at NCAA Division I Texas A&M-Corpus Christi next year.

The sophomore from Poston Butte H.S. in San Tan Valley, AZ, recently signed a full scholarship letter of intent with the Islanders and will be able to re-connect with a couple of old teammates. Alyson Girard and Samantha Miller both compete for TAMCC. Girard, in fact, earned a spot at the NCAA Division I national championship this season.

Johnson is in the middle of an outstanding sophomore season at MCC.

"Quin has been the type of student-athlete that embodies what it means to be a Mesa Thunderbird, says head cross country coach Daniel Pescador. "I can't express how proud of her I am, and she's going to be very successful at the Division 1 level. Quin really took it upon herself to be a student of the sport, and set her mind to what she wanted to accomplish during her two years and made it happen. I wish nothing but the best for Quin."

Johnson earned three All-America awards at the recently-completed NJCAA Indoor National Championship. She placed second in the mile and fifth in the 1,000 meters as well as anchoring the fifth-place distance medley relay team. She also placed 27th at the NJCAA Cross Country Championship.

So far, in the still-young outdoor season, she ranks third nationally in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:42.95, fourth in the 5,000 in 17:53.71 and tenth in the 800 at 2:19.03.
