Women finish 12th, men tied for 19th as NJCAA Indoor Track and Field concludes

  Pittsburg, Kan. – The Mesa women placed 12th with 21 points and the men tied for 19th place with 15 points as the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded Saturday.

  The MCC women were led by Quinn Johnson who placed among the top five in two individual events, accounting for 12 points and anchored the distance medley relay team with teammates Maggie Orr, Camille Foster and Alexandra Louis which took fifth place with a time of 10:17.07. Johnson was second in the mile in 5:05.60 and fifth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:03.01.

  In addition, Reese Young took fifth place in the women's pentathlon with 3083 points, winning the shot put.

  Also, the 4x800 meter relay team of Maggie Orr, Janae Quihuis, Nijillana Hunter and Alexandra Louis placed eighth, clocked in 9:58.87.

  On the men's side, Marcus Naisant was second in the heptathlon, scoring 5163 points. He won the 60 meters and long jump competitions.

  Makel Hubbard was sixth in the high jump, clearing 6-8 ¾. He was also fifth in the heptathlon with 4461 points.

  The Mesa outdoor season begins March 15-16 as the T-Birds compete in both the Willie Williams meet at the University of Arizona and the Baldy Castillo Invitational at Arizona State.
