Johnson, Stellmach, head four track and field qualifiers at PVCC indoor

Paradise Valley, AZ – Both Quinn Johnson and Tristan Stellmach added to their list of NJCAA qualifying events as the Mesa track and field team added a total of four more qualifying performances at the Paradise Valley Invitational Saturday.

Johnson added a third event to the two she picked up a week ago, smashing the national standard by nearly a minute and a half in the 5000 meters. She won the event in 17:53.71.

Sadie Sweeney, who already has met the standard in the weight throw, missed by only a quarter of an inch from equaling her national mark with a toss of 47-6 ¼.

For the MCC men, Stellmach added the 5000 to the mile for events in which he has qualified for nationals. He cruised to the win in 15:27.87.

Marcus Naisant added his name to the qualifying list in the long jump, winning the event in 23-1 ¼. He also barely missed in the 60-meter hurdles, falling just four-hundredths of a second short.

In addition, Andrew McCumber bettered the standard in the 1000 meters while winning the event in 2:36.73.

Mesa's next meet will be the Aztec Invitational Saturday in Tucson.
