Five qualify for nationals as indoor track and field season kicks off

  Paradise Valley, AZ – Mesa kicked off its 2019 indoor track and field season by grabbing five NJCAA national qualifying spots at the Puma Invitational hosted by Paradise Valley Saturday.

  Quinn Johnson led the way for the women by notching two spots, winning both events in the process. She took the mile in 5:07.72 and the 3,000 meters with a 10:47.16 clocking.

  Meanwhile, Sadie Sweeney bettered the qualifying standard in the weight throw with a toss of 47-6 ½.

  For the MCC men Tristan Stellmacht captured first place in the mile over 30 other competitors with a time of 4:24.55 and Mark Hubbard won the high jump at 6-6 ¾ to earn a spot at nationals in March.

  The T-Birds will return to Paradise Valley Saturday for their next competition, the PVCC Invitational.
