Ross-Jones 4th in high jump, Hale-Mercer 5th in shot put at NJCAA nationals
El Dorado, Kan. – As action heated up at the NJCAA Division I Track and Field Championships Friday, Mesa had another rough day as two men scored points but only one of the other MCC athletes qualified to move on to finals in various events.
Antwan Ross-Jones took fourth place in the high jump with a leap of 6-11 ¾ and Nikeaus Hale-Mercer was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 53-5 ¾.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Michael Abramson, Bryce Clemmons, Marcus Brown-Tiller, Idris Konizivenet ran a 3:16.30 but did not qualify for the finals, nor did Alex Kellybrew in the 100 meters at 10.84.
William Blocker posted a 55.23 in the 400-meter hurdles but did not advance.
The men are currently in 12th place with nine points but have some of their strongest events coming up Saturday.
For the women, Rees Young was 13th in the heptathlon with 3289 points. MCC's two entrants in the 3000-meter steeplechase finished nearly together. Jordan Alvarez was 19th in 12:51.31 and Madeline Ambrosio was one spot back in 20th place with a time of 13:02.03.
In preliminary events, Quinn Johnson advanced in the 1500 with a 4:50.83 clocking, but did not advance in the 800 after posting a 2:32.59.
Kara Dale also did not move on in the 800 at 2:22.13.
The T-Bird women are in 15th place with five points.
