Competition underway at NJCAA Division I Track and Field Championships

  El Dorado, Kan. – With only a few event finals being contested on the first day of competition at the NJCAA Division I Track and Field National championships the Mesa teams got off to a slow start.

  The women scored five points to tie for 11th place.

  Miranda Worthen placed sixth in the pole vault clearing 10-0, while the 4x800 meter relay team of Madeline Ambrosio, Kara Dale, Alexandra Louis and Quinn Johnson finished seventh in 9:48.06.

  Justice Angel, ranked seventh entering the meet, did not clear a height. Ashlyn DiDomenico was 12th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 42:37.36.

  For the men, the T-Birds recorded just one point on day one. That came from Eric Cochran who took eighth place in the pole vault at 14-7 ¼. Indoor national champion Kyle Downey failed to clear a height, as did Noah Lovato

  Nikaeus Hale-Mercer placed tenth in the hammer with a toss of 155-9.

  The men's 4x800 meter relay team of Michael Abramson, Idris Konzivenent, Jacob Suber and Carlos Bugdud Bueno finished 15th with a time of 8:11.27.

  The meet gets into full swing Friday.
