New and improved marks highlight track and field performance at Mesa Indoor and Multis
Mesa, AZ – New and improved NJCAA qualifying marks highlighted the Mesa track and field performance at the Mesa Indoor and Multis Friday and Saturday at John D. Riggs Stadium.
The T-Bird men added two brand new qualifiers and had three other marks that were improved over previously established standards.
Sophomore Alex Kellybrew added his name to the list while winning the men's 200 meters in 21.95
Meanwhile sophomore Antwan Ross-Jones leaped 6-8 ¾ in the high jump. He placed third outdoors last year at 6-11 ¾.
The men's all-freshman 4x400 relay team of Michael Abramson, Jacob Suber, Bryce Clemons and Idriss Konzivenet sliced three and a half seconds off its previous performance racing to a 3:17.80 to lead three improved marks.
Sophomore Cameron Lewis, who placed ninth indoors a year ago in the weight throw improved to 54-11 ¾, while sophomore Carver Dumas increased his heptathlon score to 4683.
In the pole vault, freshman Kyle Downey leaped 15-9 while winning the event, but he has already done better. Sophomore Eric Cochran equaled his qualifying performance of 14-0.
Sophomore Nikeaus Hale-Mercer recorded a 53-4 ¼ in the shot put but also has a better standard.
For the MCC women, sophomore Justice Angel went 10-6 in the pole vault but already has a higher mark and sophomore Miranda Worthen equaled hers at 10-0.
Sophomore Quinn Johnson ran a 3:11.74 in the 1,000 to win the event, but has also already qualified faster.
Mesa has one event remaining before nationals. It will travel to Flagstaff, AZ, Friday to compete in the NAU Tune-Up.
