Women place second, men third, at regional track and field championships
Mesa, AZ – The Mesa women's track and field team placed second and the men third as the Region I championships concluded Thursday at John D. Riggs Stadium.
The women finished well behind national powerhouse Central Arizona, but edged Pima for second place 152-147. The Men trailed CAC and Pima.
Both teams will compete at the NJCAA Division I National Championships May 18-20 at Hutchinson, Kan.
The MCC men produced two new qualifying marks for nationals. Adrian King added his named in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.25 while the 4x400 relay team of Carver Dumas, Keith Morgan, King and Ryan Talbot earned its way to nationals with a 3:17.39 clocking.
Meanwhile, the Mesa women won three events, including a 1-2 sweep in the 1500. In that race Allyson Girard won in 5:01.28 and Samantha Miller took second, timed in 5:02.11.
In addition, Girard captured the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.09 and Sayge McKrill won the discus at 139-10.
