Mesa Men's Track & Field Capture 5th Place at Nationals

LEVELLAND, Texas – They call the decathlon and heptathlon the multi-events in track and field, but for the Mesa men it could easily refer to how the T-Birds captured fifth place in the NJCAA Division I National Championship, using multiple top finishes in several events to record their best national finish since 2004. MCC scored 51 points.

After gaining three of the top six in the hammer and the decathlon during the first two days of competition, MCC claimed three of the best six in the pole vault Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Mesa women took 13 th place nationally with Alyson Girard scoring in two events Thursday.  In the pole vault, Treston Slater grabbed second place at 15-7 ¾. Leonard Bellgardt, IV, cleared the same height but placed third with more misses. Jordan Rezac was sixth at 14-0.

In other events, Jacob McBride was seventh in the discus at 157-10, while Rezac placed 14 th with a toss of 138-4.

Girard came in third in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:29.51 and was seventh in the 1500 at 4:48.70. Hilary Ogutu placed 20 th in the 5000 with a 20:02.25 clocking.
